Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes… Ah, the anatomy. Beautiful, isn’t it? These are all embarrassing pictures I took of Jen. She hates them, I love them. My favorite would have to be the one of the toes. They’re so cute! But for reals, I just like the pictures because of all the soft light in it. We’re in a tent when we went up to the Mt. Lemmon. The sun shinning through made the perfect light for me. The photo with the knees I like because of all the angles and lines in it. The way the legs come out toward you. I just added the shoulders one in there to keep the song going… there is nothing good about that picture. Finally the head. As always, her eyes amaze me. She has the best puppy dog face, and I do admit, it kills me every time. On the bright side, the angle of this photo makes her forehead seem endless. My sweet revenge.
Tucson Storm Lacrosse. We Are Awesome (Zawesome). Most the girls on our team had never played before (including me) and by the end of the season we were 2nd place in our division. Also, we were the only team from Tucson so all the phoenix teams were always trying to beat us. This is our second game; against Xavier (we crushed them). I’ve never taken pictures of sports, but I had a lot of time to sit around and take pictures because I was a bench warmer, so I gave it a try. These photos aren’t the best because everybody is moving (heaven forbid) so most of them were out of focus.
This… is just plain funny. i was goofing off in the studio with my friends when I was supposed to be taking pictures of Jen for the art project (maybe that’s why it turned out so badly) anywho, I took these pictures of JD, put them all together, desaturated them and what did I get? mugshot. Nothing more to say.
I went to California a while ago (that’s where I took that black and white picture of the kid… in September!) and I just now decided to upload all the good pictures from that trip. Even though we were only there for a couple of days, we went everywhere! But of all the places we went this was my favorite. Old Poway. There was a small railroad running through the middle of a park. The dried up leaves fell across the tracks making them look like they have been forgotten a long time ago. I like how the tracks make a perfect “s” shape down the middle of the picture. And in between every board there are the leaves sprouting up like new. on a more serious note, the leaves in the last picture look like they’re trying to commit suicide…
“So, when you really get down to the basics, the time will repeat itself which therefore means that I am ahead of my time…” I can just picture him giving that poor lady this really long speech about time and space and all that. The picture itself is not great, but the contents are golden. I was at the renaissance festival when I took these photos. The problem I ran into the most was the fact that these people (and the goat) didn’t know I was taking pictures of them, so THEY WOULDN’T STAY STILL!!! It’s bothersome. Extremely bothersome. The little girl holding the bird is amazing. Her eyes were a light shade of blue, her face with the makeup and every little strand of hair that caught the light… amazing, but it was slightly out of focus. I put a simple filter on it and it still looks good, but not as good as it could have been. (Same goes for the goat).

I know plants are boring, but at the same time the can be so detailed and beautiful. I think that’s why my mum has about 10,000 plants in her garden. These pictures were taken in my aunt’s garden in Silver City. The rose looks even brighter against the dull green in the background, the brown in the center contrasts the yellow pedals wonderfully and the soft hands bring life into the otherwise boring scene. Plants are something I usually look over and don’t pay much attention to because they’re something I see everyday. But now looking at these pictures, I know without them life would be so bland.
I took pictures of my friend, Jenni, for my art class (those will be up eventually). I was supposed to paint a picture of some pop art similar to the works of Andy Warhol. I worked on it for a couple of weeks; building and adding layer after layer, until it came to the point where I just didn’t see it going anywhere. So yesterday, as you can see in the top picture I painted over it with white, then scraped of the layers of paint using my nails (I still have paint under them.) not my photography… but still my art, right?

They are recent pictures that I took of the students around the photoj classroom. For an assignment we are making graphic novels, so as practice I made all my friends in to comics! My favorite would have to be the “Le What?!” picture, I love the lighting, the simplicity in her hair. But for the most part it’s the surprise in her face. Making these pictures into like comic books bring out all the shadows, so of course I can’t wait till I’m done with my entire project.

The door of opportunity, At death’s door , If it took a nickel to get around the world, I couldn’t get past the front door
A little while ago my dad took me down to the barrios around Main Street. Since he used to own most of the buildings on that block 20 years ago, he showed me around and told me about the history of the old buildings in that area. Most of the buildings were made before the 1920’s, but had been kept in good condition making them still livable. Although my dad, a general contractor, redid a majority of the houses, one remained undone. The house keeper of that place invited us in and showed us around the many rooms. For these pictures I turned off the flash to let the light from outside shine through the old doors and windows. A lot of them turned out pretty well, but these are the best ones by far. The way the light shows through the doors on the inside gives it a somewhat creepy feel. And even though it way just the luck of the draw, I wouldn’t change anything about them. I like the side angles of the doors, the cracks in the walls, the dark rooms with the light spilled out onto the floor and not to mention it was the perfect time of day for the lighting effects.

These photos were taken on the zoo field trip which make them FANTASTIC! On a less sarcastic note, I know all these pictures are head shots of birds. I don’t like birds but the colours of their feathers amaze me. They can be so bright and vibrant or dull and dirty depending on the type. Another thing that I enjoy about these pictures is their eyes. They all have the same colour eyes but they are all different shades. I took these pictures with my zoom lens since they were so far away. For the first couple of shot on the parrots, I didn’t have the flash on, so they all look pretty blurry. If I would have had more time at the zoo, I would have definitely gone back to the parrots to spend time on getting a clear, clean cut photo (and hope that they weren’t asleep again!) I think what makes the photos from the zoo good ones are all the defined features on the birds.
Turn over a new leaf, Flowers of youth, Face of an angel
The main focus of these pictures is nature. It is difficult to get something like a dog or flowers blowing in the wind to stay still long enough to get a good picture. They were all taken with a macro lens. In the photos with the flowers the colours are bright and vibrant. The pink or orange of the flowers compliment the green fading into the background. On the contrary the dog in the last picture has more of a subtle touch to it. The message of these pictures is that flowers are boring, simple, and possibly the easiest things to take pictures of, but the hardest to write a serious and thoughtful critique on. While the dog has also been done 1000 times before the eyes make it different since they are glazed over <<the dog is both blind and deaf>>. I should have been taking pictures for the whole week rather than just in the last minute. My work ethics definitely show in these photos because they are blurry, boring, and thoughtless. I think I’ll get started on next Thursdays today…
To everything there is a season, The inexperience of youth, Life is short death is long
I have recently acquired a zoom lens. Therefore when I went on a trip to Boston I practiced taking photos with the zoom lens on manual focus. Most of them didn’t turn out but the few that did I like. The main focus of these pictures as a whole is the focus from a distance. Most of the backgrounds are blurred out making the focal point stand out even further. For the most part the colours are vivid in the subject of the photograph. What makes these photos successful are that they are in focus, they don’t stand plainly in the middle of the pictures, and they not being drowned out by the surroundings. Some of the photos show emotions while the others bring it out in people. The small girl seems subtly happy by whatever she is looking at, while the photographer focuses hard on the picture she is taking. On the other hand seeing the grave with ‘infant’ written on it makes on feel sorry of the situation. If I could have changed anything I would have taking many many more pictures. Maybe taken more time to focus, although two of my subjects were candid and didn’t stay still. My work habits as well as my vocabulary are lacking. So as usual, I fail.
